My small and humble roots have what helped shape my character today, living to enjoy the simplest things in life. The top photo is my birth home in the southside duplex projects in Wichita (most of which are condemned now), the lower left my childhood home in Derby (which had a large tree with my treehouse in it behind that little shed my Dad built, and a thriving apple tree behind the house which got cut down). The last photo is an open field segueing to a huge forest right on the bank of the Arkansas (this being my primary outdoor play space). These roots are meek and very Kansas-esque I feel, but they’re my roots. I’ll always look back at places like these and remember that my greatness can know no boundaries and that it takes starting small to become something big.
